I make bottle cap an jar lid charms using materials other than beans. Some of the most popular “throws” I hand out on Mardi Gras are bottle caps with little mushrooms in them. My most popular cap charms, however, have red beans & rice.
Below are some of the charms that I make. I hide ones like these with the Lovebeans tag or hand them out directly, instructing people to this website.

1. The Lovebean
This is the charm I developed especially for this project to interact with people and recruit others to make our community a little better, one bean at a time.
2. The Beer Can Bottle Cap
New Orleans, where I’m located, is a city where drinking is part of many celebrations! Well before this project, I started making these charms to reduce the amount of waste I create during a night of drinking. So it became a no-brainer to plop a tab into a bottle cap and pour some resin over it.
3. The Duck
I had some resin ducks that fit perfectly into bottle caps, so I figured, why not make charms outta them?
4. The Push Pin/Thumb Tack/Random Charm
Many of my charms have random items in them. The Push Pin/Thumb Tack is a popular one.
5. The King Cake Baby
I hand a bunch of these out on Mardi Gras day. People love them, but I try to avoid handing them out for the rest of the year.
6. The Mushroom
As described above, this one is a favorite. I make dozens of them at a time.
7. The Mighty Red Beans & Rice Cap
I’ve handed out hundreds of these to tourists after having lovely discussions with them at the bar. I always keep half a dozen on me in case someone does something nice for me so I can return the favor instantly.
8. The Dead Bean Charm
I’m a member of Beanlandia, but this project is unaffiliated with the nonprofit community space and the Krewe of Red Beans. I walk with the sub-krewe, Dead Beans, and hand these out as throws on Lundi Gras. You can only get them at that parade — if you’re lucky. Again, these bean charms are not related to the Lovebeans project, but I wanted to include them because they are my absolute favorite to make!
